Better Know A Darwin – Stephanie

Stephanie Louie

What is your role and tasks for the Darwin’s Island game?

I’m part of the art team, so my role is to make stuff look good. But to be more specific, I get to collaborate with the rest of my art team on the look and feel of the whole game. We’ve recently been assigned tasks, so as of now, I am in charge of the monster-making department. You could say I’m kind of a Dr. Frankenstein, minus the zombieness.

Who do you hope will play the game?

Cool kids. Anyone who likes casual games that involve an element of fun mixed with intelligence and educational information. Also, I’m probably going to force all my friends and relatives to play the game.

What do you hope to learn from the project or hope to take away from the experience?

I’ve never worked in a large group before, so this is a really new experience for me. I hope to be able to hone my communication, listening, and problem-solving skills, as they are essential elements when working with large groups.

What kind of changes has the game gone through since the inception of the original idea?

I think the scope of our project was a little large and ambitious initially, we were all really excited and gung ho about the idea. This isn’t to say that we’re no longer enthusiastic, in fact I think there’s been a revival of enthusiasm in the group since we set a deadline for the alpha testing. We’ve just targeted our scope issues and we’ve removed certain elements from the game that we didn’t think would be as important. Since this is only an alpha version, we can always add in those extra ideas later on.

What are some mobile games or apps you’ve been enjoying lately?

Plants VS. Zombies, hands down. I finished the entire game. And that’s saying a lot, since I hardly ever finish any game I start. I also love the Japanese stacking cats game. I think it’s called “Mew Mew Tower” in English. It’s hilarious.

What is your favourite island?

The Lonely Island

No man is an island?
