What is your role and tasks for the Darwin’s Island game?
Web services (this very site you’re reading!), project management software, coders assistant, art team assistant, various documentation. Jack of all trades, master of none basically.
Who do you hope will play the game?
Probably the younger teenager crowd with smartphones. Casual gamers mostly.
What do you hope to learn from the project or hope to take away from the experience?
Experience in working in large multi-talented group. We have an awesome team with some great concepts and skills so it’s cool seeing them put to work. This is the first time I’ve worked on a mobile game too so I’d like to learn a bit about how the production cycle goes. To be honest I’d like to learn a bit about programming too, Scott’s been nice enough to let me touch a bit of the code. Hopefully I don’t break anything…
What kind of changes has the game gone through since the inception of the original idea?
I think for the most part the initial scope of the project has been toned down once we realized how long this stuff actually takes. The basic idea of the game is still there, but we’ve scaled down a lot of the extra features and accessories that weren’t totally necessary. If the games a hit then maybe they could be added in the future… It seems like a project like this would take 6 months to a year to do for most companies so it’s interesting for us to try to do it in a semester. We’ve got a lot done though so it’s pretty cool to see what we have so far.
What are some mobile games or apps you’ve been enjoying lately?
Even though it’s an Android game we’re working on I have an iPhone….but for games I’ve been enjoying lately, I have one word:
Enviro-bear 2010. Ok, that’s three…or two. Enviro-bear is a hybrid word I think…
but yeah, Enviro-bear 2010 is a chilling dystopic look at the coming events of the near future. It’s like Bladerunner…but with bears…driving cars.
Honestly, it’s the best bear-driving simulator on the market. My friend from Boston recommended it to me and I haven’t looked back since. The graphics are awful, the controls are terrible…but it’s bears! Driving cars!
What is your favourite island?
Random Island. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Random_Island
No really, it’s called Random Island. I read this one news report about some guy getting washed up on some random island. Everyone was commenting and trying to explain that it’s the name of an actual island. What an awesome island. I’m thinking of retiring there.
No man is an island?
Is that an Abba song?
